It's the climb...

Dad has been home for the last few weeks.  He was able to enjoy Thanksgiving with the entire family.  There is a lot of noise and chaos when you get the Smith clan together.  I guess we wouldn’t have it any other way.

It has been a slow climb back to feeling “good” again.  He is about thirty days old and some days are better than others.  But, it seems he is getting stronger and more himself with each passing day.  Moving on is a challenge in many ways. Physically he is struggling to gain his strength back and battle with the constant side effects.  Mentally he is trying to put up a good fight but sometimes your mind let’s your tired body make the decisions.
His counts have continued to climb on their own without help from blood transfusions.  This is great news.  He charts his blood counts like he use to chart his stocks.  Keeping vigil of where they are at.
This time of year everyone seems to be a bit reflective and express their gratitude.  We have had a lot to be thankful for this year and I would be remiss in not acknowledging all the many blessings we have had.  Cancer helps make you realize what is really important in life.

P.S.  Dearest Aunt Georgia this post is for you because you so kindly reminded me that Papa Jim’s Army was in need of an update.  You have tirelessly shown your support for all of us with your cards and witty humor.  You are a woman of many talents I find you completely amazing.
